Full Speed Ahead! - Automotive Companies Ford & NIO Bring PPE to The Bay

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

Previously, we wrote about Ford's Built to Lend a Hand campaign, where they've teamed up with 3M, General Electric, and the UAW to manufacture critical PPE like full-face shields and ventilators. We're happy to report that earlier this week, the first of several large shipments through DonatePPE touched down in San Jose, where volunteers linked up with DonatePPE founder Deyu Kong to deliver 6000 face shields to 7 hospitals in the Bay Area.

"I'm inspired by the enthusiasm of our volunteers to help move PPE," said Deyu of the GetMePPE (Bay Area Chapter) volunteers. "GetMePPE understands the needs of our local hospitals. Within half an hour, we were able to get this equipment on the road to hospital staff all over the Bay Area. They have done an amazing job in our communities. Organizations like GetMePPE are critical in getting the much-needed PPE to frontline workers in hotspots like New York, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area".

Face shields from this shipment were delivered to Kaiser Oakland, Kaiser Antioch, Kaiser Santa Clara, John Muir in Walnut Creek, Sutter Alta Bates Summit in the East Bay, Valley Medical Hospital in San Jose, and El Camino Hospital in Mountain View.

The receipt and distribution of these face shields were made possible by our partners at NIO-US.

Founded in 2014, NIO has been creating next-generation electric vehicles with a premium user experience to further a joyful lifestyle. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, NIO-US has donated thousands of masks to local Bay Area hospitals. By graciously offering to receive this first shipment in their San Jose facility, NIO has helped DonatePPE demonstrate proof-of-concept of our distribution model, and with the help of our volunteers we'll be able to upscale DonatePPE outreach.

To the volunteers of GetMePPE and SU Fight Covid: you are evidence that, together, we are stronger. We look forward to even more collaboration with your organizations during these unfamiliar times.

NIO-US: thank you for sharing your experience with us and aiding us amidst your own campaign to support our healthcare frontline.

To the team at Ford: the products of your medical equipment initiative are incredible. We are ready for the arrival of your shipments to our LA and NYC centers, and we look forward to helping you get these and other PPE to more hospitals across the country.
